Yes, we’ve all said it. I say it almost every time I get ready to leave the house. Usually several times while I’m standing in my closet trying to get ready. “I don’t have anything to wear.” Often, the real reason behind this statement is that I don’t know what to wear. This is especially true for photo shoots. The resulting photographs will stand forever as proof whether or not you had good taste in choosing your families outfits on that fateful day in 2010. Well, it may not be that serious, but those photos will be looked at lots of times in the future. So why not wear something cute?

Here is my recommendation for what a casual family should wear for a shoot in a park or laid back downtown Asheville area.

Wow, are we in a heat wave or what?! It’s been in the 90s for what seems like forever here in Asheville and it sure does feel like it. It’s hot. So what should you dress your little girl in during the summer heat for family pictures?

I say go light. Not necessarily with colors, but definitely with fabric choices. Thin, breezy, gauzy fabrics are best. Shorts and tanks as well as cute little summer dresses are perfect. Keep your little darling cool by having her wear sandals and maybe even a spunky hat or sunglasses. Check out these cute outfits, all from Mini Boden.

Even though we’ve had a few cool days, Asheville is settling into Spring. We’ve been trying hard not to turn on the air conditioner and so far, we’ve been mostly successful.

Like most women, I struggle with the whole “I have nothing to wear” and “what should I wear” conundrums. I’ve decided to make it easier for all of my clients and give a few suggestions. Once a week, I’ll feature a “What to Wear” inspiration board. Clients and friends, these can be used to help guide you into the best clothing for your photo session.

A few tips for spring:

Ladies, unless you have rockin’ arms, tanks are not the most flattering. Wear something with a sleeve.
Try dressing in bright happy colors in the Spring.
Don’t forget accessories. Chunky bracelets and colorful earrings and necklaces are great. However, these photos are of YOU and YOUR FAMILY, not of all of the cool stuff you own.
